My Motivation, My Purpose

Hey there baby Jags!

We're at the end of another work week and slowly approaching finals and I see many mental breakdowns in my future. No worries though, I won't fold under pressure. College is hard, especially being away from home. The motivation I receive daily from my family is what keeps me going.

My parents have motivated me since day one in everything I do. Often times I get overwhelmed, and their reassurance that I am making them proud helps me keep going. I don't know where I would be without them. My mom is my best friend and my dad is my entire world. The example they've set for me has encouraged me to be successful through all of my ventures and pushed me through the hardest times I've faced. I owe them everything.

My brother motivates me just as much as my parents. We often joke that I got the brains in the family and he got the personality, but he is so intelligent and such a good role model for me. It's a blessing to have a brother who you can talk to like a best friend and who protects you like he's your dad (even though it drives me insane sometimes).

My family is my motivation to trudge through the hard times and they are the ones I rejoice with in the good.

Who motivates you? What's your purpose?

Love & light always xx

Laura

If You Don't Know, Now You Know

Hey baby Jags! The JagGuides are coming at you live this week with some behind the scenes scoop on South Alabama. I'll be hitting you with a few fun facts about our university. 1. OOZEBALL. Once a year, students get together to play volleyball in 6 feet of mud. I know it doesn't sound appealing to most, but every year it is LIT. Everyone looks forward to Oozeball coming around.  2. Our baseball team, which you can catch in action at Stankey Field, has made 25 appearances in the College World Series tournament. Talk about ballers! 3. The youngest student ever to graduate college was Michael Kearney, who graduated from the University of South Alabama at the age of 10. Child prodigy FTW! 4. The Mitchell Center houses some of our classes. The Mitch is where our basketball games and other events take place, but classes are held here in the basement. Imagine being a freshman walking to your first class and having to navigate through the Mitch to find it. Lucki...

"Ain't Nobody Got Time For That"

Hey baby Jags! We have officially passed the midterm mark of the semester and things are getting REAL. I have honestly enjoyed this semester so much and done well in the classroom, but there are inevitable challenges we all will face as college students. The main challenge I have faced throughout my almost 3 years at South would be managing my time. I currently am taking 17 hours, working part time on campus, juggling a few different clubs and honors societies, and finding time for philanthropic work and sisterhood events with my sorority, Kappa Delta. It can be extremely difficult to find time for everything thrown at you and you definitely will go through periods of time where you feel as if you spread yourself too thin.  I have learned that making a list each morning when I wake up is extremely beneficial for me. On Sunday afternoons, I will write out all that I have to do for the week. Each day when I wake up, I will pick 2 or 3 assignments or extracurricular things t...

#collegehacks

Hey baby Jags! I'm coming at you live with a few #collegehacks that can make your life easier as you transition into the scary world of adulthood: 1) $5 Friday's at Smoothie King: Smoothie King is close to campus and it's always scorching hot here, so this is an A1 deal for a broke college student. 2) Set multiple alarms. No seriously. I have 5 alarms set for every morning. Won't catch me missing class. 3) Get a stick-on pocket for the back of your phone. You'll never have to worry about losing your Jag Card or your ID downtown! 4) Use Chegg! You won't catch me paying $500 for a book.     5) TREAT YO SELF! You are going to get overwhelmed and you will lie in your twin XL bed contemplating life and cry. Go out with your friends, go to the mall, get your nails done. You deserve it, you hard working college student you! Love & light xx Laura
