Everyone Gets A Discount

Hey baby Jags!

Getting used to being in college and on your own is rough. Let's be real, we basically all have to ball on a budget out here. The good thing is that South Alabama and companies throughout Mobile offer perks just for being a Jag. All you have to do is flash your JagCard and you get discounts on discounts on discounts.

My favorite perk is our discount movie tickets at AMC Theaters. All you have to do is visit the Jag Productions window in the student center and you can receive a $5 movie ticket. I love going to the movies but usually my money is spread thin from check to check, so being able to go to the movies for a discounted price is extremely beneficial for me.

I also love that you can get discounts at many of the nail shops near campus. On select days, multiple nail shops offer you discounts on mani/pedi's, eyebrow waxing and more. Ladies, you know you have to stay slaying around campus. Gentleman, you know your feet probably need a good scrub every now and then. Visit a nail shop near campus and get 10% off.

These are just two of my favorite perks of being a Jaguar! Check out the link below to find all of the discounts offered to students at the University of South Alabama:

If You Don't Know, Now You Know

Hey baby Jags! The JagGuides are coming at you live this week with some behind the scenes scoop on South Alabama. I'll be hitting you with a few fun facts about our university. 1. OOZEBALL. Once a year, students get together to play volleyball in 6 feet of mud. I know it doesn't sound appealing to most, but every year it is LIT. Everyone looks forward to Oozeball coming around.  2. Our baseball team, which you can catch in action at Stankey Field, has made 25 appearances in the College World Series tournament. Talk about ballers! 3. The youngest student ever to graduate college was Michael Kearney, who graduated from the University of South Alabama at the age of 10. Child prodigy FTW! 4. The Mitchell Center houses some of our classes. The Mitch is where our basketball games and other events take place, but classes are held here in the basement. Imagine being a freshman walking to your first class and having to navigate through the Mitch to find it. Lucki...

3 Tips

Hey baby Jags!  Picking the college you want to attend can be extremely stressful. It can get overwhelming to muddle through a list of schools and deciding where you want to spend the next 4+ years of your life can be very scary. Everyone approaches the college-picking process differently, but I will give you three tips that I used to help decide on a university. 1) Money. For me, I looked into scholarship requirements and figured out how much assistance I could get from each university I was interested in. Finances are a huge factor for most people when deciding on a college. I found that South was the most affordable and I was able to earn the largest amount of scholarship money here as well. 2) Location. I come from a college town so all of my friends stayed in our hometown for school. I wanted to get away but also be close enough to home to be able to get to my parents if I ever needed them. South is about 3 hours from my hometown of Troy and about 45 minutes from the...

Getting Ready For Your Next Chapter

Hey Baby Jags! You're all coming to the end of the road and getting ready to close a large chapter of your life. You may be excited, you may be nervous.. I must admit, I was a little of both. There are a few things you can do to help you prepare for your transition to college. These things definitely helped me be comfortable as I left home and started the next chapter of my academic career. First of all, SCHOLARSHIPS. My entire last semester was devoted to finding scholarships in my community and surrounding areas that I could apply for. College is expensive, as we all know. Many students do not realize how much money is available to them if they just search. Your guidance counselor at your high school should be able to lead you in the right direction if you aren't sure where to start and I would also suggest searching online for scholarship possibilities. Most are simple applications with short essays to accompany them and most people are not aware of many of the scholars...
